A marvelous disc! The sound of the violin as captured on this recording is close
to perfection -- warm, big-hearted and a bit closely miked. Csaba's violin tone
is beautiful indeed, as are the performances as a whole. One of my favorite recordings. |

I have to agree with the previous reviewers -- simply put, this is a ghastly recording. Very bright and up close sound,
and no ambience whatever. The liner notes list some Russian recording engineers, not the usual Polyhymnia who do

What a stunner of a disc! My favorite SACD, out of the several hundred I now own.
The performances are simply to die for. I have scores of alternative versions (Argerich, Ashkenzy,
Horowitz, ..., Volodos), and no one holds a candle to Cliburn in the Tchaikovsky.

This is an absolutely divine recording of Bach's cantatas on period instruments.
All the virtues of SACD are in presence in this recording. Voices have a stunning presence,
with the ambience of the recording venue clearly heard.
