| As far as comparison, I used the Audiogate software to convert some of my own DSD recordings to the whole host of other formats supported by that software and did my own sonic comparisons and preferences. | I have some of their earliest releases as SACD but didn't know that. Back to the "what is the source recording" question as far as comparison is concerned for sure... I've seen "Pure DSD" used as a qualifying tag, but don't know or really suspect that is applied consistently. ... more | |

| audioholik - very interesting diagram from a long ways back in hi-res history at least :) thanks. most people don't realize that DSD-64 (2.8MHz, 1-bit) in the DSF format are smaller files than both DXD (about 4x bigger file) and even 24/96 WAV. | DSD can only be played in its native format directly from the Korg MR- player. That may not be obvious to everyone and isn't explained that clearly anywhere that I saw. But the Audiogate software (which can convert anything to anything including DSF, DFF, or WSD) cannot stream the DSD from the computer. It converts it to some PCM format specified ... more | |

| You might want to read about the Korg MR-1. This is about the size of an iPod and runs on rechargeable battery or AC. It is a field recorder as well as portable player.
