| I don't really know enough to say, but I would probably prefer the DSD1792 since it has better specs, and doesn't have an internal analog filter like the DSD1791. I'm sure on-chip filter capacitors don't rate well with the audiophile crowd. I'm flirting with the idea of modding the player to use the DSD1792, but the control signals will have to be ... more | |

| The low end Pioneer 563A uses the Burr Brown DSD1791 DA chip (at least for the front left and right) which handles both DSD and PCM (it has separate digital inputs for each.) On a scope you can readily see the difference (DSD has lots of noise on the output whereasd PCM does not.) So there appears to be no downconversion, at least on this ... more | |
