Although my playback preference is vinyl, I really enjoy the SACD / DVD-Audio / BD-A formats. I am especially fond of well-produced multichannel mixes with discrete or aggressive (not just background) use of the rears/surrounds. Yes, it can be overdone at times, but 5.1 releases that barely (or don't!) make use of the rear, center and/or subwoofer channels are disappointing. I am slowly building a better system as the wallet allows, most recently with the addition of a Cronus Magnum amp and VPI turntable. Future upgrades will hopefully include an Oppo player, 5.1 DAC and high-end speakers. Although I have a ways to go on the equipment side, I enjoy the sonics achieved with my current setup and will continue to support (and demonstrate to my friends and family) these wonderful high-resolution discs. Flagged titles in my library are actually wishlisted items. |
