More great performances by Szell and Cleveland. The Fourth is a bit less transparent than the Midsummer Music. Fingal's Cave is the best on here, quite good sound. |

A new one for me. Most impressive. As usual for Szell and the Cleveland of this era, great ensemble and virtuoso playing. Sound in the Mahler and Walton a bit rough. Firebird quite nice sounding version an excellent interpretation. |

Great music and performances! I've owned them in previous versions since I was a teenager. Sound is a bit variable. As per usual with Szell SACDs, the sound on the recordings from '68 is better than that from that on the Meistersinger and Tristan selections from '62. This disc was a must for me. ... more |

These are great performances. I believe Walter's version of 40 is the best, period. Problems? Sound is a disappointment. Ok, it's better than the CD. Perhaps that should be good enough. Perhaps not. 5 for performance, 3 for sound. |

I love this disc. Best performances I've ever heard of the Dvorak 7th, Carnival Overture, The Moldau and Dances from the Bartered Bride. Ok, supposedly Talich and the CPO were better in an ancient recording not likely to appear on SACD.
