Here is a Pure Audio Blu-ray that is both surprising and admirable. Surprising for the mix of instruments used, such as percussion, viola, flutes and guitar. Admirable because the compositions by Bjorn Bolstad Skjelbred, born in 1970, are inspired and cannot leave one indifferent in the field of contemporary music. Six scores share the program of this recording: “Movements” for marimba and viola, “Recognizing the Undercurrent” for vibraphone, “Still Waters” for Marimba and Bass Flute, “Lines in Motion, Entwined” for Vibraphone and Crotales, Flutes and Guitar, “Nyx” for Solo Viola, and finally the work which gives its title to the album, “Waves & Interruptions” for Solo Marimba. Bjorn Bolstad Skjelbred’s music is of rare delicacy, and the mix of tones heard is wonderful. The exemplary sound adds to the perfection of a recording all curious music lovers will appreciate for what it is. A pearl…quite simply.
