Performance:   Sonics:
Being one like most collectors of Yes, I have gone through countless versions of the same album(s) for years (5 different sets owned of at least the first 10 album releases.) Going from vinyl to CD ( various remasters since the CDs first came about, gold CDs, DVD Audio 5.1, SHM CD's form Japan, Warner Bros Japan Fragile 5.1 SACD, Audio Fidelity SACD hybrids and finally this box set). The AF releases CTTE and GFTO are definitely lacking in comparison to the counterparts in this set, often less "airy" and slightly harsher, to these ears. Remastering from 2013, this is the pinnacle of the Yes catalog sets with the first 8 being my favorites, and without a doubt, rivaling even their best vinyl counterparts including the beloved MFSL LPs!!! Pricey for the quality?...Sort of, but when you consider this is a 16 piece set, (13 albums (15 discs) and a bonus disc) the cost is $29.26 per album and bonus disc or 25.25 per disc, considering 2 are TFTO and Yessongs double discs. Packaging is jewel case rather than mini-LP, and the box is well designed, unlike other collections that kind of just throw the discs into the package, ala the Pink Floyd Deluxe box sets. If you can afford it, get it, BUT PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A HYBRID 2 CHANNEL SET, like all that have come before and after. Although the 5.1 versions are slowly coming out on Blu-ray 5.1 audio, neither the titles, nor release dates are set and I can't imagine Mr. Wilson taking time to do the whole Atlantic catalog, with everything else he does. So I would recommend picking up the Blu-rays as they come out, choosing your favorites, but picking up this set for the BEST SET in stereo available, if sound is important to you. Cheers...8)
