Towards the end of the sixties, I had the pleasure, before graduation, of seeing two iconic bands sharing the same bill: Blood, Sweat and Tears (featuring David Clayton~Thomas) and Sly and the Family Stone.
The Spinning Wheels were turning that night.....a quite memorable evening!
ORG's stereo SACD remaster of what Rolling Stone Magazine has designated #99 of the 500 Greatest (Rock) albums of all times is somewhat memorable in and of itself. There's A Riot Goin' On containing the hits Family Affair, (You Caught Me) Smilin', Runnin' Away, Spaced Cowboy and Thank You For Talkin' to me, Africa (the original title of the album)...........rock again, big time, thanks to a miraculous remastering job.
Having taken an inordinate amount of time to record, and in a somewhat self~induced drug state, Sylvester Stewart's love affair with overdubs created somewhat of a murky mix (never quite liked the sound of the original vinyl).
Crank up Riot (not quite to 11) and your ears will be treated to a blast from the early 70's ............. a hangover period from the somewhat chaotic 60's.
Riot is hardly audiophile material but Org Music has managed to make Sly's overdub souffle into what I consider a must buy for rockers of all ages.
It's 2013 folks........and there are still Riots Goin' On!
