Performance:   Sonics:
Whereas Universal is trying to revive the DVD-Audio in its most basic form (24bit-96Khz) via the Blu-ray format, the Norwegian label 2L is offering the ideal compromise vis-à-vis Pure Audio High Definition with two discs lodged in one Blu-ray case. The first is an SACD mastered in DXD 24bit-352.8kKhz, and the second is a pure audio Blu-ray in multichannel or stereo with two different mixes (5.0 DTS HD MA 24bit-192Khz and 2.0 LPCM 24bit-192Khz). The result is a small marvel of precision and openness of the soundstage. For the recording under review, it is all the more convincing with a vocal group of the highest order, offering a series of fourteen songs, among them those of Nielsen, Tveitt, Holden, Berge, and Janson. Supported by the supple and rich direction of Elisabeth Holte, the Urianienborg vocal ensemble captivates us by its expressive force at each moment, in a clarity of tone that is full of enchantment. In short, there is no denying this is one of the musical highlights of 2013.
