Performance:   Sonics:
Sir Colin Davis - who died last year - was one of the greatest conductor in the history of classical music. He conducted London Symphony Orchestra in 1999-2012, and he made over 40 recordings of orchestra's own label LSO Live. This Weber's "Der Freishutz" is Sir Colin's "testament", his last recording. Soloist are very good and London Symphony Chorus makes good work as always. Simon O'Neill's Max is wonderful, he sings strongly. Unfortunary, Christine Brewer's creamy voice isn't good for Agathe's role. Sally Matthews is happy Annchen, and she would have been better Agathe. The Wolf Glen's scene is very effective: distant lightning, brilliant spoken dialogues and stunning echo effects. First Act's walz is also very funny. This is great experience, but I have to say, that Carlos Kleiber's classic recording with many legendary singers is better than this, if you try to find thrilling performance. There are slow tempi and no spoken dialogue between arias and ensembles. But, recording quality is amazing! Strings voice is deep, and Barbican Hall isn't so dry, what it is other older records. This is beautiful performance of Romantic masterpiece, I cannot say more.
