Performance:   Sonics:
On first listen--Wow! This is what a 1958-era stereo recording should sound like on SACD! The horns are crisp and clear, the bass has huge resonance and the drums are panned in stereo! Of the three LPs Miles Davis & Gil Evans released together, this is the stylistic high point, and the Mark Wilder re-mix reveals that the multitrack mastertape is in fine shape.

Musically, this falls somewhere between "Miles Ahead" and "Sketches Of Spain"--it is not quite as melodically smooth as the former, but the dissonance in some songs is not a jarringly weird as the latter. And man, does that orchestra sound fine! Miles is in top form, and "Kind Of Blue" cohorts Cannonball Adderley, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb ably support Miles in this exotic hybrid of Gershwin meets Cool Jazz.

Sound is topnotch throughout, no dropouts, no obnoxious de-noising. Highly recommended.
