I was impressed when I heard this disc first time, because Singapore Symphony Orchestra's playing is very effectively and BIS label's recording is warm and natural.
Rachmaninov's Third Symphony is quite unknown to me: I heard Osmo Vänskä's live recording with London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) long time ago, and it was very enjoyable performance. But this is first - and only - multi-channel SACD release of composer's late masterwork. Shui finds many surprising things from the score, and his tempi are moving. Rhapsody on Theme of Paganini is excellent too: I have to say, that I haven't never heard so beautiful D-flat major variation like this! Huge experience!
Surround mix is wonderful: it captured Concert Hall's acoustic perfectly, and results are breathtaking: it feels like you sit in the concert hall. Surround speakers "echo effect" is marvelous!
