Performance:   Sonics:
It was in the second half of the 18th century that was founded the First Viennese School, grouping three great figures of music of the time, that is Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. The present recording invites us to rediscover the musical savor of the era with the String Quartet in C major, called “Emperor,” Op.76 N°3 by Haydn, the String Quartet in C major N°19 KV 465, called “Dissonance,” by Mozart, and the String Quartet in B flat major Op.18 N°6, called “Melancholy,” by Beethoven. Under the bows of the Zemlinsky Quartet, this chamber music “concert” is enchanting from beginning to end. Melodic finesse and phrasing of subtle respiration are on the menu. Finally, the exemplary sound recording effectuated in DSD must also be praised in that it makes this SACD one the most beautiful tributes paid to these three geniuses of western music.
