Performance:   Sonics:
The recording that is proposed here regroups the last works for guitar by Fernando Sor (1778-1839), that is the “Three Studies Op.29,” the “Concert Piece Op.54,” “Lesson Op.31 N°16 and N°23 Movement of Religious Prayer,” the “Mazurka Op.43 N°4,” the “Waltz Op.32 N°2,” “Calm, Caprice for solo guitar Op.50,” as well as “Three Studies Op.60 N°22, Op.35 N°17, N°22.” The Spanish composer Fernando Sor, whose guitar pieces are most remembered today, was also the author of the opera “Telemaco,” as well as the ballet “Hercules and Onfalia,” which he composed for the coronation of Czar Nocalas 1st. The guitarist William Carter embraces these admirable pages with welcome subtlety. Both interiorized and passionate, his playing offers the nostalgic image of music which speaks to the heart more than to the soul. In a sound recording of rare delicacy, this SACD is a winner not to be missed.
