I might be the only person who was not a fan of Meijer's first Channel Classics harp sacd. It had nothing to do with the playing ofcourse..but the recording. In my opinion I divide the output of Channel Classics in half. The sacd's they released prior to some techical hardware changes and those sacd's that came after said technical changes.

At least to my ears Meijers first sacd fell into the prior category. The sound of that sacd was glassy, the transients abrupt and clunky and the instrument of the harp sounded somewhat harsh.
That was then.

Since then Channel Classics purchased a new A/D converter and with this release they are using new microphone cables. Apparently this has increased the quality of the sacd sound.

Channel Classics has always produced beautiful music but in my opinion not always great sound. Now with the new tech changes behind the scenes over the last several years.....they are producing magnificent sacd's. And this is because they truly care about continual improvement. The first change I noticed was with the Podger Bach sacd which simpply floored me. I could not believe the improvement in sound and feeling from that disc.

On this sacd, her third the sound is nothing short of awesome. The liquid quality of the strings......the flow and range of the textures and the whole harmonic structure of the harp instrument is beautifully captured. To sit and listen to Mrs. Meijer's gifted playing is a joy to behold. I guess the word "enraptured" comes to mind when listening to this disc. Her playing is simply superb. A great artist who keeps the listener entranced with the beauty of her playing and her art....but now...the recording does it complete justice. If you want to know how beautiful the harp is as an instrument...just listen to this disc. The harp sounds so much more real this time around...more free flowing and expansive. And whether she touches the strings gently or with force....all the subtle and not so subtle nuances are gorgeously captured via this pure Dsd recording.

Thanks yet again to Channel Classics...for another gorgeous sacd with tremendous sound and playing working together in unison to bring us the best in classical music.
