The title of this album means just that....alone. Bill Evans on piano playing solo. This disc is from 1968.

For me Bill Evans is one of my all time favourites. His music is truly great.

Although I really like this album I much prefer Evans trio. I just miss the usual liquid bass work and drum flourishes too much. Also his uniques Evansesque interaction is missed on this disc. There are times when he solos on his other trio albums and I enjoy that mixture better. Having said that this is a pretty excellent disc.

The dsd transfer is, as usual top notch. The sacd captures the full range of Evans piano sound. The notes can be dense with the upper and lower notes captured very nicely. The notes can blend into each other in a good way. The piano insrument is captured in deep rich tones with a nice 3 d feel to the proceedings. The decays are nice as well. You can see in your minds eye his fingers hitting the individual notes.

Evans is good indeed to sustain our interst on his playing for the entire duration of this album. He's simply an all time great jazz musician. He died much to young.

My only reservation is that he might have mixed up the tone of the album more. By that I mean I would have preferred some slightly slower numbers. Other than that this is top notch.

Very much recommended. A very good shm sacd.
