Performance:   Sonics:
I do not own this particular Evans album in any other recorded medium. So I cannot compare this shm-sacd to any previous releases.

Shm-Sacd's of the jazz genre have mostly been excellent. Some have been unbelievably good. This is one of the really good ones.

That being said this is a very enjoyable jazz album from 1961.
The Bill Evans trio play very laid back and relaxing jazz on this album....music that is almost meditative and deceptivly simplistic. It's about the delicate nuances and tonal values that the music creates that is most enjoyable. You wont find any bombastic drum solo's or long bass runs here but there is some excellent interplay going on between these three musicians. I guess delicate is the best word to desribe the listening experience of this album.

Sound wise I would say that this Shm-Sacd fits into the best shm-sacd transfers. There is no compression on this disc and the volume has to be raised quite high. There is no hint that this is a digital medium as the sound is realistic and very easy on the ears. And tape hiss is heard mostly at the end of the tracks but it is there and thats always a good thing. The really good discs have a particular charm to them that makes the money spent on them worth it.

If I have any reservations at all it would be that perhaps its too laid back for my taste but this is a personal music issue and should not concern you...the prospective buyer.

Highly recommended.....another excellent tape to Dsd transfer by Universla Japan.
