What???? Classic Rod Stewart album on sacd. Who would have thought this possible a year ago????

If you are a fan of this album I would recommend this brand spanking new shm-sacd to you.
With any classic release we must wait to see how good it is sonically. This one is very good but not quite great. Still it has enough sonic qualities to it that certainly makes it a good disc to have in your collection if you like the music enough.

Stewarts voice sure is raspy but not without its own unique charm and the music is both rock and folk blended together. This is very early Rod Stewart dont you know??? Disco was soon to follow but thats another story.

I would place this disc on a lower level sonically than the very best shm-sacd's but it is still a worthwhile sacd to own. The very best transfers have a full bloodied life-like quality and freshness to them that is a wonder to hear. This dsic is not recorded with the some fidelity.so what does one do. Does one deprive themselves of the joy of the music??? Ofcourse not.

Recommended.

Rod Stewart: Gasoline Alley 2014 Re Issue SHM SACD Stereo Only

Rod's 2nd solo album and just might be my favorite. This 1970 release was a much listened album and cassette for me and of course when the first RBCD came out I purchased that also. Some compare this to Elton's Tumbleweed Connection, I personally think this is better.

All three releases shown on the DR index have the same DR 11 value, including the HDTracks download.

Performance: The country acoustic style is what pulled me in many years ago. Rod's voice is at his earliest and young raspiness. A lot of fellow Faces band mates of course contribute to this performance. A much listened to disc my whole life based strictly on performance and the love I have for this music.

Stereo Sonics: Absolutely great. Rod's vocals are a constant dead center except in last track where vocals are right speaker. This is not over amplified rock music so the stereo sound comes across warm and friendly. All instruments can be heard as they are. I do believe when I can hear guitar strings vibrate and guitar necks tweak I have a very good recording. The stereo stage is not very wide, there are a couple of drop separations between vocals and band but this is only highly critical and does not detract from the awesome job to SHM SACD. I guess I will give 4.5 stars, but reluctant to do so.

Packaging: Plastic jewel case with square corners. Japanese green disc. Mini paper gate fold inside photo, I do not believe was on original LP ?? Some liner notes by Rod Stewart and Ron Wood, musician and track list, etc. Mini paper booklet with Japanese writing and English lyrics.

A note for SACD.net and everybody: This reissue came with a black and white full photo as to what I presume to be a real photo of Gasoline Alley? The photo via SACD.net is the only cover I have ever known and was quite a surprise to see this NEW photo with red and white lettering when it arrived from Japan.

To own this stellar SHM SACD reissue is a great pleasure to me and I have never heard better.
