I recommend staying away from this new shm-sacd. Unlike most of the other titles available this one does not sound very good.
Thus far the very best shm-sacd titles have been extremely impressive. Black Sabbath, Dire Straits, Allman Brothers Band, Steely Dan, Getz/Gilberto and the new Sonny Rollins title are all killers in the sound department. These sacd's are simply awesome.
I had high expectations for this new Asia title. I was very disappointed. It seems to me that despite what the packaging says about this being a new remaster from original tapes....it actually sounds like a copy from a lower rez digital file. The vocals are very brittle and harsh most of the time and the music doesn't bloom or expand the way the other very successful shm-sacd transfers do. There is a very tinny feel to the music and the sound is compressed and uninvolving and almost abrasive.
The theory on breaking in these shm titles by playing them numerous times is very true. But nothing could help this sacd from revealing it's limitations.
What the heck happened????
