I have to seriously consider not purchasing any more Mobile Fidelity sacd's. This is getting expensive.
How does a company who has a very expensive refurbished tape recorder that captures every single nuance on the master tapes and a gorgeous dsd system manage to shoot themselves in the proverbial foot time and again. What the heck is going on over there?? Do they even listen to what the final product will sound like before its released to the public??

I was tempted to think perhaps my system is at fault because so many sacd's from Mofi sound unimpressive. But then again that wouldn't explain why some of their sacds sound so great.

The first two Mofi Stevie Ray albums sounded more than decent. They were at least competetive with the previously available Sony discs and on some levels were superior. But what the heck happened to soul to soul?? It never sounded so uneven and dull. Every track seems slightly different from the one before.
Quality is all over the place. At times it sounds muffled and only a few chosen tracks actually sound good enough to listen to. But whatever the case or explanation.....I have to vent my disapproval.
This disc was a waste of money. I rarely if ever proclaim that an older cd copy of said album is better than a brand new remaster on sacd. But this is one of those very rare occasions where I will say so. As I was really looking forward to this release I cant really explain how unsettling it is for me to fork over my hard earned cash on this mess of an sacd. The sound is not what I paid for. I can barely listen to it.

The uncompressed cd from the late 80's was a better listen even if it doesnt have the additional musical information. Last but not least it seems that some content is missing from the last track. And ofcourse this adds insult to injury.

Not recommended.
