I enjoyed Osmo Vänskä's Beethoven cycle with Minnesota Orchestra, and now this superb team continues with Bruckner's Fourth Symphony in E flat major "Romantic". There are 1888 version of this symphony, and it is very different than earlier versions.
1) There aren't strings tremolos in the famous main theme (first movement).
2) There is cymbal in symphony's finale.
Minnesota Orchestra plays very pulery, and BIS label's recording quality is outstanding: bright, clear and natural. Vänskä reads Bruckner's majestic score very well: he understands score's dynamic markings and third movement's hunt horns are very effective. The beautiful trio (G flat major) is also excellent. This is brilliant.
