Vocal works from Nordic composers are hot, for good reasons. Concerts in western Europe are fully booked when the likes of Pärt, Tormis and Kreek show up on program posters and the influx of choral works from the Baltics and Scandinavian countries has revived choral singing.
There is a lot to be liked on this SACD. Most of the works in this recording are available on other CD’s but not as perfectly performed and recorded as on this Harmonia Mundi SACD.

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir gives a perfect reading of works that have been composed mostly between 1919 and 1995. The only older work is from Jean Sibelius (Rakastava) and show that choral composing is not a recent invention. I found this to be a very powerful 6 minute piece.

The recording was made in the Methodist Church in Talinn, with great success. Especially the 5.0 recording was very well balanced. Roomy but still precise and clear. Light out, TV-set off and one sits in a church in Estonia listening to angels. Great art.
