Giuseppe Verdi's "Requiem" is very powerful work, and I have two recordings of this masterwork: this and Riccardo Muti's studio recording (Emi Classics). This, Sir Colin Davis' live recording is good: London Symphony Orchestra plays strongly and soloist are very good. Karen Cargill is excellent mezzosopran (I like her recording of Berlioz's "The childhood of Christ") and Christine Brewer's creamy and loud voice is very good. Unfortunately, Sir Colin' tempi are too fast of this work, it sounds like horrible stress! 5.1 multichannel recording is terrific: watch out your subwoofer! By the way, this might be excellent recording, but something is wrong: too fast tempi and humming recording. Just OK. I recommend Claudio Abbado's recording (Emi Classics) or Daniel Barenboim's recording (Decca).
