| This is a recording from a concert in in Budapest, December 2006. We are most fortunate that Wispelwey, Fischer, and Channel Classics continue to produce such fine SACD recordings at a time when others seem to be reverting to inferior recording methods. The performance and recording are both first rate. Wispelwey, as always, sets the standard for cello performances, and this is good a live recording of the Dvorak Cello Concerto as I have heard. I was not familiar with the variations by Dvorak on one of his own melodies, but they are beautiful, and lyrical, and a delightful surprise. I strongly recommend this wonderful new recording.
