Great Duke Ellington Music + Excellent Musicians = Musical Success!

The artists involved did a marvelous job: The vocal arrangements were exciting and tasteful. Sampling of audience applause was done tastefully and enhances the listening experience. Recorded sound is detailed and transparent with rich bass.

However, the dynamics are very compressed. That is, the levels are so high, your ears become bored (from the lack of contrast) and fatigued in the second half of the program.

Overall, this SACD is recommended based on great Ellington content and excellent playing by WDR Big Band Köln.
