This marks Jacintha's sixth release for Groove Note, and I'm reminded of the adage, practice makes perfect. Although perfection is a quality most difficult to achieve, Jacintha here shows us that she keeps up her earnest attempts at honing her craft.
This latest release features nine well-known songs made famous by their association with some of the most popular movies of the fifties and sixties (one oddity is The Mamas & Papas' "California Dreaming" that I heretofore hadn't known had been featured in a movie, but it was), but Jacintha makes no attempt at singing these in a way that would conjure up the various moods that the originals would have us recall. Instead, they are all presented in that sultry signature that she's developed for her own style of singing; I must say, too, that in this particular collection she is far more successful than in her previous releases.
All but one of the backup musicians on this album are new to me, but I'd consider this the very best of all the GN originals I've heard from this perspective. There is a tranquility to it that sets a mood that never wavers. Sound is typical of all Groove Notes, which is to say that it's excellent.

Jacintha sings nine classics from different Hollywood movies. From the obviously indispensable Raindrops to the beat generation hymn California Dreaming that was used in Chung King Express, and the somewhat stupid Que Sera Sera originally sung by Doris Day.
Those who know Jacintha, know what they will get. There are no great surprises to the insiders in the interpretations of the songs, some thrilling (Windmills Of Your Mind, California Dreaming) some common (Alfie, Raindrops) and although everything is perfect, I think she should ask herself, if she isn`t getting a bit boring, meanwhile. Her last Groove Note record The Girl From Bossa Nova hasn`t been real news as well and didn`t reach the qualities of her first recordings. As I like her qualities as a singer very much, I hope that her future records will reach more depth again.
As always with Groove Note Records, the sound is perfect, rich of colour, very good soundstage and imaging, air for the instruments and the singer to breath, dynamic, brilliant.
