Performance:   Sonics:
I heard both Isao Suzuki albums which are now released on SACDs, before. I found Blow Up too much of avant-garde, while Blue City to me is an example of well measured balance between smoothness and being innovative, not falling into honey dripping sweetness.
Imagine Erroll Garner meeting George Benson at ECM (!), add a bit of a cello and at times two basses - note that one of them is bowed - this says something about the music. Even though the arrangement is thoughtfully directed - the performance is alive and by no means mechanical.
Sound quality exceeds all expectations. Having rather modest sound system, I thought I knew its limit after listening a few Venus and FIM albums; today I received Blue City and happy to change my mind. The only moment which keeps me from saying that this is absolutely perfect is a few seconds of hearing left and right hands playing piano from different places as if there was a gap in between. Then this gap vanished and the piano took a reasonable space in my room.
I think it's the best jazz album I have in my humble SACD collection which barely exceeds two hundred items.
