What charming, interesting music, and beautifully recorded! There is no sense whatsoever of the mics being too close, as can sometimes happen with chamber music, yet the instruments' tonality and impact are perfectly captured with realistic spatial cues. I have only a passing familiarity with these three composers, and didn't know these works at all. I am completely captivated by their earthy, romantic melodies. Even if you're not a fan of chamber music, give this release a try. The music is very tuneful; easy to grasp and enjoy.

C'est un programme unique que nous propose le label Praga Digitals. Trois Sonates pour violon et piano à caractère hongrois de la période romantique. La Sonate en ut dièse mineur opus 21 de Erno Dohnányi datant de 1912 eut un grand succès qui dura plusieurs décennies. Celle dites "romantique" de Jeno Hubay en ré majeur opus 22 est une œuvre de jeunesse "qui montre que l'auteur connaissait fort bien les Sonates pour piano et violon de Beethoven qu'il avait eu l'honneur de jouer avec Liszt au clavier" précise Pierre-Emile Barbier dans son remarquable texte d'accompagnement. Tandis que la Sonate en ré majeur opus 25 de Karl Goldmark datant de 1824 représente un bel exemple de synthèse du courant romantique. Avec un engagement de chaque instant, le duo formé par Peter Csaba au violon et Peter Frankl au piano captive par un sens de la narration exemplaire. Sous leurs doigts, « le voyage » devient soudain une véritable fête de couleurs et de phrasés passionnés. Les trois compositeurs enregistrés ici retrouvent enfin une place d'importance dans l'histoire du genre, magnifiée par une prise de son en pur DSD, d'un naturel confondant.
