If you are a fan of jazz funk then you will immediately know well the work of The Brecker Brothers. The album "Heavy Metal Be-Bop" (1978 Arista) was an album I played a lot during my fusion jazz days and was one of albums that really got me into funk. Some Skunk Funk is of course the name of one of the songs from this album and also shares the title of this SACD.

This album captures the Brecker Bros live some twenty years later at the Leverkusener Jazz festival where they were lovingly recorded by the Telarc team.

On the bad side there are a number of rotten edits between tracks....i cant imagine taking such care of recording this so well and then just scissors edits between songs. Perhaps the worst live editing ever ! The music itself is full of life and without question these guys still have it !

Sonically this SACD is an excellent live recording and offers a BIG live feel with excellent staging and a nice clean sound. The bass is nice and rich as are the upper registers and the music is nice and bright. Just what you would expect from Telarc.
