Bit of a suprise this DDD recording from 1990 ish and Marriner/Zimmer are better that I expected in this selection of overtures and a tone poem. All typical of Dvorak symphonic music.
After a bright and breezy Carnival we get a really Atmospheric "Othello" which is too often neglected. This to me is a highlight and as with three of these works are a much needed addition to the sacd catelogue with some delectable playing. The Water Goblin follows by the Berlin Radio / Zimmer entering a different Tone Poem world also of picture painting and story telling and is more than acceptable as a recording and playing...Finally we get the Overture Dimitry which is a slightly deeper more serious less entertaing work. From the very limited notes which you get with the disc It mentions Dvorak revised this work by chopping a bit out.It doesnt mention if this in included or even mention either of the the two works which start the disc with the ASMF//..very poor. Its is at near bargain price but slight short measure.Dave
