I received this item on approval? having commented once that I would try virtually anything.Well.It turned out to be a very easy decision to buy. I have previously obtained the Joan and the Bells Cantata and to be honest I have mixed feelings about that.Good in parts ,mediocre and flat in others.Really nice recording especially of Romeo and Juliet suites which leave the Telarc Jarvi for dead..However this disc is something else...Ive always wanted a replacement for my Copland Old American Songs disc which I played to death.This disc is going to suffice....Its very similair in many ways...Wheras I was looking for tunes and melody in the other Getty work (mostly in vain) This has themes in abundance albeit very Copland like.and the singing is first rate ..The second work of Welsh Tunes should have made me feel nearly at home but two if them are more american than Welsh....The remaining items Annabel Lee and the Victorian Scenes seem even better from a melody point of view.To finish, a contrast, with an except from his Opera.This was different but not to my personal taste.Ive no doubt more listens may make it acceptable.
Big suprise hit for me and excellent booklet lyrics as well....Still would like that Copland done though....Dave
