Performance:   Sonics:
The Lord Menuhin, the RPO and the Pathetique seemed such an unlikely combination that I gave it a try and the performance shows Menuhin's humanity and great-hearted personality shining through - but without tearing a passion to tatters(which thus might not be to all tastes). I felt this was a finely crafted performance. The RPO is in good form for their then President who was about 78 at the time of the recording, and technically it also seems very good though not perhaps quite at the forefront of to-day's latest technology. The conductor and orchestra obviously enjoy the showmanship and histrionics and of the Marche Slav which follows a little too quickly after the end of the symphony for absolute comfort. I will enjoy returning to these performances.
