Performance:   Sonics:
I'm not one for long reviews. I bought these from HMV Japan. I've one or two Dutton CD's so knew what to expect from historical recordings..

What I didn't know, was what to expect of Furtwängler.. really, if you have not heard Beethoven 9th or the "Coriolan" overture (Op.62) played by Furtwängler in the Reich by BPO, then you need to.

The performance is outstanding... the audio quality of the Dreamlife SACD's is actually very good for historical performances.. the SACD layer actually makes a difference and shows that SACD is more than just high frequency extension. It is much kinder to old analog recordings than any CD master I've heard. However.. don't be expecting too much.

Unfortunately.. the number of people into SACD's who value the performance above all is an even smaller niche.... so these are likely the only recordings we will ever see on Mono SACD... but what glorious recordings they are!!!

The BPO is taken to the edge by Furtwängler.. very exciting, shocking even. Compare the "Coriolan" SACD with any modern recording, no matter how well recorded, and it just sounds insipid in comparrison.

Maybe they're not for everyone.. but its not often I sit and play the same classical track over 10 times in a row just because I can't get enough of it..

Daniel.
