THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND MOVING DISCS I OWN!!! DO NOT MISS THIS!!!
The late, lamented Shirley Horn was nothing less than a protegé of the late Miles Davis. She sings with the lyricism of his trumpet in Kind of Blue. The song selection and performances on this album are nothing short of blissful. The lyrics touch every emotion one would hear in a really good cabaret act, but Shirley sounds like she is standing right in the middle of my living room.
The arrangements are lush, the trio is up to Horn's usually-high standards and the string arrangements are so lush they will make you want to grab someone and hold them really close...
The whole recording sounds wonderful, both in surround and 2-channel stereo. The selection of tunes is so seamless, it sounds like one of the Sinatra/NatCole concept albums of the 50's and 60's.
GET THIS BEFORE IT GOES OUT OF PRINT!!! NOT TO BE MISSED!!! I am only sorry this label has not issued Horn's companion album to this one, YOU WON'T FORGET ME. That is also a must-buy on rbcd.
