Brilliant CD. This is the disc that turned me on to Ryan Adams about 2 years ago. I was really missing out on some good stuff! This album remains the best, though, and I'm glad I finally purchased the SACD version. It's stereo-only, but that's fine in this case. The sound stage is good enough that I occasionally had to check the center speaker to verify that there was nothing coming out, because my ears disagreed from my listening position. The dynamics are superb through-out. You could tell on the original CD version that there was a lot of range compression going on and that the original performances were more dynamic than CD could handle...This has been very well represented on this disc. There are a couple of tracks that have some tape hiss, but you only notice it because the noise floor on the preceding track is so low that there are moments of literal silence between the beats. It is so enjoyable to crank this album up and just chill with your eyes closed. The CD layer is downmixed from the SACD one, and it sounds better than the original recording. Less compressed and no distortion.

All in all, a worthy investment even if you've already purchased this album in the past.

A very good sacd release of Adams first solo album which sports excellent sonics. This release by Mofi was just before they went bankrupt in the early part of the decade. I feel that their sacd releases were better then than they are today.

This particular album is much more intimate than Ryan's second disc but is just as impressive. The listener can really feel the studio space in which this sacd was recorded in. The sound is full, rich and dynamic when it needs to be. Ryan's vocals are very well rendered and the instruments are very nicely felt. Ryans second disc.......also a great sacd was much more busy, polished and perhaps energetic with many more instruments in the actual mix. This Mofi disc is on the whole more tender, simplistic and very intimate. Both are terrific releases and winners in my book.

Adams is a good song writer and he plays an extended package of different sounding tracks here which are all excellent sounding. There is a very lifelike presence on this disc that makes the sacd worth purchasing. A great sounding release from start to finish.

I cant imagine anyone who likes Adams music to not like this disc. Mofi did a very great job here.

Highly recommended in spite of the inflated price tag.

Holy Christ this sounds so gooooooooood! Mobile Fidelity deserves their reputation... Some of my SACDs are alright, but this one makes me proud that I bought an SACD player. This electrifying album is available through Acoustic Sounds. Now that's bittersweet irony - just like Ryan Adams :)
