Sonics:
This is a highly-engaging SACD and one of my new favorites. Others who are more qualified can comment on this particular performance versus others, but even in stereo it is an amazing recording. The low end in particular is delightful - it's robust and plump but not boomy. I have to disagree that the hall is causing some significant problem. There is a slight "hardness" to the mids noticeable when the strings predominate (which I've heard before with some - some - all-DSD recordings), but the depth and the dynamic punch more than make up for that. If you often enjoy music that's both beautiful and fun, as well as nicely captured, this disc may become one of your favorites, too.

Performance:   Sonics:
“The multi-channel fosters an involvement that they stereo version simply cannot match...This is certainly what Berlioz intended when he imagined the Symphonie performed by an orchestra of 250. The “Love Scene” from Berlioz’s Romeo et Juliette is a sublime bonus on the disc.” -- The Absolute Sound

I admit to a vast ignorance of the subleties of classical music, but I nevertheless enjoy listening to much of it. The High Fidelity Review of this Symphonie fantastique says the recording venue is less than ideal and the intrepretation too laid back. That may very well be the case, and the multi-channel may convey a more realistic performance, but I throughly enjoy listening to the 2-channel version of this SACD both in terms of sound reproduction and musical content.
