Willard White is a rather underrated bass baritone in the present Opera World. But his vocal and interpretative qualities shine through in this disc of arrangements of Paul Robeson songs.

The works, quite popular, depict the intense and deep beliefs of the composer and interpreter, and uderline the struggle of voices that needed to be heard in a certain epoch.

White is an outstanding advocate for both works and plight. His voice has a big range and a multitude of shades, so he is able to convey accuratelly the shifting moods and the beauty of the profound in each of these works.

The ad-hoc orchestra is very good and the sound is excellent.
