Sonics: |
The strings and brass were recorded in the UK, the backing musicians in California, B.B. King.... Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens...or so it seems anyway. Look, I really like a lot of B.B. Kings stuff. I would dearly love to see his earlier recording 'Deuces Wild' , a collaborative effort with many fine musicians on SACD. On Deuces Wild B.B's aging voice compliments well with various partners in different numbers.
Unfortunately reflections is aptly named as it truly reflects an aging voice that should be (at least by this particular example) be reflecting about rather than recording the past.
Sorry to sound so cruel but I try to tell it as I see it and suggest that any prospective purchasers at least listen to some of the disc before buying it.
Reflections has found an exalted place in my record rotation: put it on when you have a strong desire for your company to exit...stage left!
Can't bring myself to rate the performance at all.
