Performance:   Sonics:
John Lennon: Imagine SHM SACD Stereo Only

This Japanese SHM SACD released 12-3-2014.

John Lennon's 5th studio album released in 1971 and his 2nd release without Yoko Ono.
Voted 80th of Rolling Stones 500. I would disagree.

Performance: I really like it as it has good radio hits on it and of course the forever iconic first track, Imagine. George Harrison plays on some tracks. Tracks play well in there order and is an easy listen. Even though I gave this listen sitting in my listening chair it is the type of performance where I have no problem walking away and listening as background music. I love his "love songs" on this disc, like Jealous Guy and Oh Yoko. There was an earlier time in my life when the opening of How? hit me like a ton of bricks.

Stereo Sonics: First moment there is crackling for a second before Imagine starts but goes away. A little tape hiss here and there. The end of I Don't Want To Be A Soldier Mama I Don't Want To Die comes across very well with a moog space sound. Overall this disc has what I refer to as a flat sound, it is not a dynamic powerhouse. I was able to hear little nuances here and there mainly at beginning and end of tracks. Track 8 How Do You Sleep? sounds great with the addition of strings dubbed in.
I listened to this disc at medium level, certainly not loud as it is not that type of thing I am looking for with Lennon, at least on this disc.

Packaging: Great cardboard mini LP, not gate fold. Inside contains a very small picture of John with a pig, a folded photo of Lennon playing a white piano. Mini Japanese and English booklet with lyrics. Plastic disc protector and original mini LP holder.

I have owned the RBCD in the past but at present this is my only disc of Imagine. I believe this is a very good sounding disc but, for me, the performance is somewhat subdued which affects my opinion of the sonics.

I certainly am happy to have this in my collection and will listen to it again.
