I don't think anyone was still recording in 16bit after the year 2000. Whether the original 24bit files are kept after the CD mastering session is another story.

eclassical does not indicate the "recording format". You assume that if eclassical does not offer a 24/44 download for a BIS album it must have been recorded in 16/44. But maybe BIS just did not provide them the 24bit files.

Usually eClassical.com would offer the highest possible resolution. Only when the record has been recorded in mixed formats (perhaps in 2 different sessions with months in between) do we offer the lower alternative, because mixed formats are bound to cause trouble for the customer while downloading. We do not upsample. Regarding the Secular Cantatas, vol 1, it probably was a 24 bits recording. If so, why it is not on offer as such on eClassical is something I need to check up on. Thanks for the pointer.

Any update on the concluding volumes of the Cantata cycle being released?

They are all released. The Cycle is completed - 55 volumes.

Thank you for your reply Robert.

I must admit my question was ambiguous.

I have the boxed sets numbers one to four.

They cover discs one to forty.

Has the last group of discs forty one to fifty five been made into a boxed set released to complete the cycle?

Or do I have to buy the remaining discs as single pieces?

Remember, BIS has yet to release all of Bach's secular cantatas, so there's more yet to come, yay! Volumes 1 through 55 are the church cantatas.

Oh, I see.

I think it will go like this, but, PLEASE, it has not yet been decided, so this is NOT a promise:

1) We will release a full Box with 55 SACD:s Hybrid (the first 27 with fake but very good surround and higher than 44,1 sf where possible)
2) We may release a Box 5 in a Limited Edition, with Vols 41-55 in CD quality only, like the first 4 x 10 Boxes. We may split up the last 15 in 1x8 + 1x7.
3) We may, but unlikely, make a Box of Vols 1-27 as SACD:s Hybrids.

I don't believe any of this will happen this year.

Having methodically purchased ALL of the original SACD cantata discs, and being a good customer for BIS in the process, I do feel treated unfairly, Robert, by your classifying option #3 as "unlikely". I am willing to buy copies of the synthesized SACDs of volumes 1 - 27, many of which I already own in the stereo originals; however, to force me to buy a Big Box of every disc in the series -- and thus duplicating volumes 28 and onward -- just to get 1 - 27 in SACD......well, that is poor customer relations in my opinion.
