right ok so that is the way it is.

so just to recap

sacd player 5.1 output cables go from that into back of av reciever input and then the 5 speaker cables connect to the av reciever and im good to go?

im looking forward to this now, i'll aim to get that denon avr 3300 and then i will probably get an early bose subwoofer and 4 small speakers and i should be good to go right? :)

i already have gaucho, pink floyd and dire straights which i think is a nice start?

Almost you are forgetting the center channel. 2 front, 1 center, 2 rear and the sub.

You might also like to consider what connection you might need/like between your yet-to-be-bought multi-channel amplifier and your display. I'll readily admit that I'm not experienced in these things, but I'd have struggled (to put it mildly) to configure my multi-channel audio set-up without a display. That is also what the manufacturer's user manuals state, i.e. that it's much simpler to use a display than the front display of the player and/or amp. I use an S-Video to Scart cable, permanently connected - although I never really change the settings of the amplifier. Of course, possibly by using an HDMI connection, you might "automatically" get OSD (on-screen display) set-up instructions from your amplifier - but that option wasn't/isn't available to me. So, in short, you might like to get prepared in advance - and find out a bit about your amplifier before you take delivery.

If you are taken by multi-channel audio, don't forget that the other format of DVD-A exists also, with such bargains out there as King Crimson's "In The Court Of The Crimson King" and Eemerson, Lake and Palmer's first two albums. These are all wonderful examples of multi-channel audio - even if your Sony player is unable to access the hi-res content.
