OK, here's a title so off we go....

Start near the source : ear wax dissolving drops. Cotton wool buds should not be overused, since over cleaning can thin and irritate the epithelium of the auditory canal.

Love the title - gives us all a chance to get on our soapboxes, or high horses!

The only thing that should enter one's ear canal is good music and polite conversation!

Hmm, I was pondering starting a thread to be called "Real-world Tweaks" (i.e. not white ceramic discs which you place 1.407 meters above the listening room's elliptic focus). This thread will suffice....

1. Find a quiet place (preferably alone).
3. Relax (fine alcohol works wonders).
4. Turn out the lights (AND the computer).
3. Close your eyes and listen beyond the melody to the inner voices.

WHAT?! You mean those evenings when I settle in with a tasty shiraz or bourbon and crank out my favourite tunes are what listening to music is all about? Since when? Madness, madness I say!

Whither the artifical atoms? The Tibetan bells? The overpriced and objectively unprovable accoutrements with which I'm supposed to lord it smugly over all my friends with their unsophisticated ears whilst desperately convincing myself it's a wise investment?

Next thing you know people will be claiming all you need is a decent enough set-up, a calm place free of distractions and the music you love. And the snake oil industry doesn't need such subversive mutterings.

But perhaps IF we took this thread seriously, we wouldn't moan and complain how badly SOME our 5" Optical discs look and sound.....

Because there ARE ways of improving ALL of them if we shed our stubborn streaks and avail ourselves of them (meaning Tweaks)!

I agree, this is the most important tweak of all.

I use a Rubber Bulb Ear Syringe with hydrogen peroxide and warm water. Press on the bulb, point the ear syringe up inside the ear canal that way the water's force won't directly hit the eardrum. Tilt your head with the ear being treated downward so the water runs out, I do this over the sink. The hydrogen peroxide will dissolve excessive ear wax. I follow with warm water only to make sure I wash out any remaining hydrogen peroxide.

Also it's not a bad idea to have your ears professional cleaned occasionally.

Never put anything else in the ear canal especially Q-tips as one can damage the eardrum.

It must be a green syringe, right? ;)

Concerning Tweaking & Tuning on either side both Players or physical media makes sense only when the change affect physical parameters involved in the resulting sound. Other "means" pushes all of us to medieval dark times of blooming alchemy:

I myself have tested "green edge" on RBCDs and a "burning disc" that helps the CD-player to "break-in" by using special amplitudes of the recorded sound to improve the whole stereo setup.

"Green Edge" was explained that reduces "parasite jitter reflections dramatically" then. I must say, that I have never noticed any improvement with using this method on any of the title I have tested with or without "green edge". I understand physical phenomenon of Red laser used in CD pick-ups and the said "Green edge" as a counter method for fighting off the undesired reflections of the DIGITAL signal prior entering the DAC(s).

This method has been itroduced when CD-players have been imroved by 8-times oversampling already intead of four. I simply cannont imagine, how the green edge of the disc can affect any digital signal stemmed from 8 samples of each bit of information per second. Period.

"Burning Disc" has been introduced about the some time as the "Green Edge". You have been told that you shoud aply this one the whole day and night continuously with you stereo setup turned on with the normal listening level. The said effect should improve the pathway of the physical components on the way ANALOGUE signal goes thru. Each material has its crystalline grid right? Resistors and wires are made of CFC (Carbon Free Copper) as they say. I simply cannot imagine how any signal can affect crystal grid of any material (not to mention CFC)for any lasting period. After U stop this and start playing any other type of musical media the system is transmitting the signal with the same parameters as any previous signal. Alchemy in this method tries to persuade you that previous implementation of the "Burning disc" makes the next signal more "discrete" which is total bullshit.

So Tweaks and Tuning that really works are bettter DAC(s) the THICKNESS of the wiring interconnects, the filtering or the power conditioning, better mechanics, properly centered physical media (excentric disc made enough jitter that no "green edge" can handle with), etc.

best regards Tweakers!
