Hi - I'm new to the forums, but have been a sacd fan since they were originally released. My primary player is a Sony ES DVP-NS9100ES. Recently my player stopped working and the local repair shop has determined the laser lens mech is not functioning. My repair person seems friendly and has been in business for 30 years. He states that Sony Parts only sells the 'entire mech' in order obtain the laser piece(s) I need. The repair price is quite a lot he says b/c the part is expensive from Sony.

Does anybody have a part number for this item? Do you have a suggestion of where I might shop for an equal performing, but less expensive replacement? Should I purchase a used working unit from somebody for a parts machine? What should I do?

I cannot afford the new Sony ES 5400 player, but I really want to be able to listen to my sacd's. Thank You for your assistance!

Get a new laser, the whole unit. Do not get a used laser!
I did some searches and yes even from the aftermarket vendors this laser is a little expensive. You or your tech friend can do the same.
Reliable vendors are Liberty Electronics in Miami Florida and Supermanmeliu in Taiwan. The are both ebay sellers of good reputation. I have purchased replacement lasers from both and they were good operating units.
Just get on to their websites or ebay stores and search for DVP-NS9100ES and the proper laser should come up for you. Then you can compare the price with the Sony price and decide how to proceed.
