upsampling 16bit to 24bit for playback.

No point in that, but raising the sample rate is beneficial as higher lowpass filter frequency can be used.

Ignorant idiots pay $20000 for a dSC upsampler box

I'm hopeful we won't have any of them round here now you've made such an eloquent point!

50 words a day: straight to the point...

I am looking at the new Yamaha BDA1020. The user manual shows that the Bookmark works with DVD and Video only, but does not work with BD discs. Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the case? The Denon DBP2012 does have Bookmark function which works with many BD discs, but it does not have last disc memory recall!
Thanks.

It must be functionality for just DVDs. That is, to my knowledge all blu-ray players utilize the format's bookmark feature, but it is dependent on the software allowing it.

Surely as one is restricted to 50 words per day one would do better to choose them a little more thoughtfully? You seem to have a very closed self-centric view of everything which sadly few seem to understand or agree with. If hi fi doesn't interest you why comment on it?

Quite right. It's title dependant as a function of on-disc java programme. This format was introduced in late 2009.

First BD title I purchased was recent release in very late 2010 that had this functionality. Later in 2011, I purchased two BD titles released in mid 2009 that didn't.

It's an idiosyncrasy of BD format in that early titles won't have the java necessary for this function.

I believe that Fox and WB are still somewhat irregular with their use of it.

Just re-read the context here; I was referring to disk memory recall, not bookmarks.

But your point is still right -- the disc has to use java for the Blu-ray bookmark feature to work.
