I came across a japanese import of bitches brew on the internet, selling for $50, but on the sony sacd page they have bitches brew "x"ed out. Does anyone own this, or know if it's legit? Hows the sound quality?

I have a copy, the JSACD is legit. Not being a Bitches Brew expert (the SACD was my first copy of BB) can't really comment on the sound quality - I'll take another listen tonight.

That's the US SACD release which was planned but has been cancelled.
I have the JSACD (ordered it from earlyrecords.com). It sounds very good, although for the SACDs mastered by Mark Wilder generally the improvement over the CD versions he mastered isn't enormous.

Is the JSACD the re-mixed stereo version like on the 1999 CD re-issue, or the original Teo Macero Lp mix? The easy way to know is to listen for hiss and dropouts where the original stereo master was edited (BB has hundreds of these).
