YES, it's DSD and it's Channel, the artists are stellar and the samples sound lovely -- BUT except for the 'Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal' track (4:20), there is a complete overlap of material with Benjamin Britten: Les Illuminations - Scottish Ensemble, itself an excellent disc. Benny the Brit wrote SO much (589 items in Grove)... it strikes me as a failure of imagination to repeat Opp 10, 18 and 31.

All the Amsterdam Sinfonietta recordings for Channel are highly desirable discs and this one has been eagerly awaited since pacwin first posted it's arrival on One Bit. The anticipation for me is every bit as nail-biting as the announcement of a new Ivan Fischer disc. Small as they are Channel have two real gems on their hands with these two ensembles and seldom do the disappoint. Long may it last.

An interesting thing about this album is with its 30 tracks, at 30 seconds each, you can preview about a quarter of the disk on the Channel Classics site.

I got the multi-channel download, and it's spooky realistic.

Based on the samples I'm especially looking forward to the Variations and the Seranade.

I have my SACD on order---- will let you know what I think. Some nice reviews here and there. I'm really looking forward to the Seranade.

Tom

That is simply wonderful, thank you for posting it. What a fantastic line-up and incredible sounds. This promises to be The Disc of 2013.

The disc sounds wonderful to be sure, but I echo the previous comments about the overlap in materials. Mark Padmore's outstanding performance of the Serenade was released just months ago on HM SACD Britten and Finzi Song Cycles - Mark Padmore

Hi Beagle and Matthew

I'm curious. How do three independent labels releasing like material constitute overlap, and is that a bad thing? Would you accept the fact that a label with its artists believes it could add to the already available recorded works a better interpretation and presentation?
