Great to have YES this way. Now tell us when Blue Jays, Hayward and Lodge will come out in 5.1.

I own the quadraphonic 7.5 " per second reel of Bluejays and it is absolutely brilliant in four channels. I don't play reels much at all these days, but would would trade one my my kids for Bluejays to be released in SACD 5.1, 4.1, 4.0, whatever. Of all recordings that is number 1 on my wish list, and I know for many others as well!

With over 15K hits on this thread and the availability of Close to the Edge on DVD~A and BD~A 5.1/stereo, I truly believe the AF Stereo only release has been covered in sufficient detail....and truly pales in comparison to the Steve Wilson remasters. I have both!

Furthermore, the comparisons of recent Audio Fidelity Stereo only SACD remasters with 5.1 existing surround mixes (CTTE & Billion Dollar Babies) may have prompted AF's CEO, Marshall Blonstein to consider releasing future SACDs in surround which I consider somewhat of a coup since it will also retain the Stereo mix, as well.

Something Gained and NOTHING lost Alexandre.

I agree totally with regard to the Steve Wilson DVD-A mix compared to the SACD. I have since managed to get shot of my SACD - and enjoy this album in 5.1 - the way it should have been released in the first place. I also thought the stereo mix on the DVD-A sounded better than the SACD version.

----concerning- Blue Jays - --------

I have no idea what have this Lodge/Hayward release common with CTTE?

If yes...and if not would be released certainly deserves its own thread.....

Nothing in common with CTTE, but a 4.0 Quad Reel of solo Moody Blues (I also have the QUAD reel but haven't played it in probably 30 years).....

The discussion had shifted to "wouldn't it be nice if AF released this on mch SACD" as it should've released Billion Dollar Babies in 5.1 surround since existing masters exist.

CTTE sounds better in 5.1 as well ............ as would've Blade Runner had it been released in 5.1.

We discuss the wasted real estate on a BD~A when it only contains a single stereo album but the hybrid SACD seems to suffer a similar fate when an 'existing' mch track is ommitted.

Unlike the Motion Picture releasing companies with the uber extras and extended Director's cut, the music conglomerates are downright stingy with their offerings.

a) Quad reels......honestly almost every tape suffers from ageing. The more the less used. I doubt, that every company or fund can maintain every reel in working order properly.
We have been informed that original mutlitrack tapes for many past releases exist in poor or very poor condition or has been completely lost (e.g. ELP The Three Fates or KC Devil's Triangle).

b) I personally like uplifting discussions to that extent that one can easily recognize the topic of the original thread. But in this case I do not fully understand praising for Lodge/Hayward release.

c) Agreed - Steven Wilson 5.1 mix is revelation of the music that deserved better resolution than that of Vinyl or RBCD made from existing production masters.

d) What to release on BD-A first and what next? I personally do not understand Why they are re-releasing music that has already been addressed propperly on higher resolution formats....and the choice of albums is a mystery to me.......these few BD-As already pushed through to the market can hardly appeal majority of the listening public.(Maybe you can present figures of the already sold copies here?) And we are talking of the sustainalble future for any Hi-Rez format. Unfortunately I am more keen to say, that they have missed the whole business with that.

EPILOGUE:
The latest release of PMG - (-KIN-) I have been offered in 24/96 flac. I enjoy the music that Metheny has produced past 40 years but still I wish that release on physical hi-res format. I doubt that it will happen after Imaginary day can still be found in second hand shops.....
