I got mine yesterday, so my listening is far from thorough. My initial reaction when I listened to samples was that I preferred the sound of the pieces on the Steinway, but I find I'm liking the recordings on the Erard better initially.

Most of my focus was on the sound of the pianos yesterday, so this is premature. I have MANY Ravel paino CD's and Lazic's on CC is among my favorites. I need to spend more time with this set, but I've heard nothing that seemed less than excellent so far.

By the way, this set was intended to sell for a very slight bit more than a single disc set. If anyone is charging the same as a normal two disc set, they are charging too much. Clearly, the American distributor has it priced incorrectly. Any non-US site will be far cheaper--- Amazon US $44.64. Amazon UK 10 Pounds! That's a great price, for a very interesting set. I got mine from the CC site.

At that price, Amaldo could the disc he doesn't like into the canal himself.

Look--- As I say, I have many excellent Ravel discs. So far I can say I expect to spend many hours wtih this set. More in a couple of weeks perhaps....

Thanks.

I was tempted to order the Lazic yesterday, but then I noticed it's 10 years old. A lot has changed since then WRT recording technology, so decided to wait.

Yes, and allot of it has gone downhill with new technology and overzealous use of it. On the plus side, A/D Converter technology has improved, certainly with the introduction of the Grimm Converter, as have mic preamps, and microphones have at least stayed about the same.

But IMO, with the proliferation of products like Avid's Pro Tools into fine music recording, the general level of realistic sounding recordings have declined, especially in MCh. Fortunitly there are still production companies that have advanced the recording art.

I love the Lazic! It's different, but lovely, and sounds great. The Giacometti so far is gold star, and I wouldn't want to be without either one. Especially since the Giacometti offers the Erand Piano Version.

I just received my copy of Sudbin performing Gaspard on BIS, this one is also worth your consideration.

Done. Just ordered this along with:
Bach: Christmas Oratorio - Netherlands Bach Society
Ravel: Complete Piano Solo Works - El Bacha

Ordered the Bach title because it's been sitting in my Amazon wish list for the past two years and the second Ravel title so I'll have the complete Ravel Piano works. I'm somewhat pedantic of this at times. LOL!

New review of this now up from Geohominid:
/showreviews/8282#9360

This review explains raison d'etre of this recording in detail. Well done Geohominid.

BTW, where can additional information be obtained of this and I wonder what the source of Geo's information is?
