Just spotted on this site that the price for this Everest/vanguard SACD is around $400 USD.

What is so special about this disc? Why is it worth such a princely sum?

Here's the link you forgot to post:

Villa-Lobos: Little Train of the Caipiria, Antill: Corroboree - LSO/Goossens

These are all Amazon Marketplace prices. When a disc is out of print, some Marketplace sellers think they'll be able to sell their copies at extremely high prices. But it doesn't mean the disc is now worth that much.

A better measure for the market value are Ebay auctions that have resulted in a sale.

Not a collector's piece in my view.

Generally speaking Everest discs - published I believe by Vanguard - are quite excellent transcriptions from analogue, indeed probably the best but like all others limited by the quality of the tapes used for the transfers. We have two of their discs but not this one.

Top price for me is £30 for any disc, a higher than desirable limit but set by the need to import rarities from Japan. I recall the Gatti Tchaikovsky's cost us around £20/30 via Amazon but they are exceptional recordings in DSD and well worth it and certainly collectable. Prices of those are now scary...
