Has anyone had unusual experiences with this player? I've now had two players in a row which start to read "no disc" on both SACD and Blu Ray. The experience with the first one was that things progressively deteriorated and the second player seems to be heading the same way. Denon's agents in Sydney are very good and will do anything to help but are but clearly flumoxed. All comments and sugggestions appreciated.

This is probably something you won't want to hear, but run, don't walk away, quickly from Denon optical disk product.

Whilst they manufacture reliable, quality, state-of-the-art AVR, their optical players are simply rebadged product from second-tier OEM such as Funai. I would never seriously consider any of them. Plus, Denon extravagantly over-price them as well.

That said, good luck in your quest for resolution of your dilemma.

BTW, have you considered the fact that your disks are simply dirty?

Have you tried to clean them, yet?

I had the exact same problem with the Denon DBP-4010UD. Denon products are overrated and overpriced. And the service is a disaster, those morons with Denon couldn't find any wrong with the player.
After previous problems with a Denon receiver I'm totally done with them.

My Denon DBP-4010UDCI also had this problem. The problem resolved with replacement of the laser.

Thanks for your comments guys. I have to muddle through for now as I can't afford to replace but I'm sure it'll come to that. In response to comments, - I always clean my discs before play and have already replaced one laser. Thanks again, paul

Ok so here's what has happened to me with this unit. Had the same issue. sent into denon service with a disc that wouldn't play. They replaced the laser and it then worked for a while. Now it's doing the same thing. Seems to be a systemic problem with this unit. Unfortunately I'm having little luck with customer service getting back to me now. Was a great player when it worked but I fear its at the end of life. Very poor for a flagship unit and I would expect more from Denon. Always had great results with their stuff till now. :(

Don't bother sending it in will just cost you $500+ and you'll end up in the same spot in a little over a year...

And that $500 would buy you a reliable Oppo BDP 103 with great tech service.

+1

For what it's worth, Nucaleena, I typed in 'Denon 4010 player' on Bing and checked out an e~bay listing which has a seller in Miami Florida offering the Optical laser lens (for the 4010UD model) brand new for $45.80 + $4 s/h. But you'd have to be mechanical to DIY or engage the services of a local techie who might be able to do it for you. According to the seller, 10 are available and 19 have already been sold at that price.

An option, nonetheless.

I also just noticed (duh!) that you posted this in September of 2012 so wonder if it's still relevant or perhaps you've moved on with a new player........

Really pays to read the dates of the original postings.

Hi Ralph et al, still have same player and tracking is fine for now, tho disc tray is misbehaving. Shame we dont get Oppo here in Oz. Can't afford to replace Denon as have just replaced my Quad IIs and pre-amp.

Unfortunately, Paul, our toys don't last forever. Had to send both Meridians back (the 861 and the 808). Expensive toys but nonetheless subject to wear and tear. The 861 is having a much needed upgrade so am actually relieved that the power supply punked out (they're putting in an improved linear power supply, whatever that is).

No OPPO in Oz. I do love my OPPO but there are better players for DVD~A and SACD stereo (and I'm sure mch). I'm a staunch movie buff and the picture is absolutely stunning so I'm hooked on the little fellow.

Whenever watching a film I haven't seen in some time, am astounded at the massive upgrade in picture quality and of course lossless surround. It is like experiencing the film for the very first time.

A friend of mine who's mechanical fixed the drawer on my Parasound Universal player and it's been working fine for well over a year. Unless the pulley/gears are worn on your disc tray, perhaps a friend who has some mechanical know how can fix it for you.

Enjoy your new speakers and pre~amp.
